Tawa Paneer

Tawa Paneer is a vibrant dish traditionally cooked on a flat griddle or pan. With Spice Symphony’s All-Purpose Base Sauce and your choice of our handcrafted masala, this version brings layered flavor without complicated prep. It’s perfect for weeknight cooking and equally fitting for a shared meal.

Ingredients

Marinade

  • 2 tbsp Spice Symphony All-Purpose Base Sauce
  • 3–4 tbsp plain yogurt
  • 200 g paneer, cubed
  • Salt, to taste
  • (Optional) ½ tsp Spice Symphony handcrafted masala of choice

Tawa Masala

  • 3 tbsp oil
  • ½ tsp cumin seeds
  • 2" ginger, grated or finely chopped
  • 1 medium tomato, diced
  • ½ cup mixed bell peppers
  • 1 tsp red chili powder (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • ¼ tsp turmeric
  • 1 tbsp crushed kasuri methi
  • Fresh cilantro (optional garnish)

Method

  1. Marinate the paneer: In a bowl, mix the base sauce, yogurt, and salt. Add paneer cubes and gently coat. Set aside to marinate. (Optional: add ½ tsp of a Spice Symphony masala to the marinade.)
  2. Temper the spices: Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Once warm, add cumin seeds and allow them to sizzle.
  3. Build the base: Add ginger and sauté briefly. Add tomatoes, bell peppers, turmeric, chili powder, and coriander powder. Mix well and cook until the tomatoes soften.
  4. Shortcut: You may skip the chili, turmeric, and coriander powders by using 1½ tsp of a Spice Symphony blend (Tandoori Masala, Garam Masala, or Bottle Masala).
  5. Cook the paneer: Add the marinated paneer along with the marinade. Stir gently to avoid breaking the cubes.
  6. Simmer: Cover and cook for about 4 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
  7. Finish and serve: Add crushed kasuri methi or chopped cilantro. Mix gently and turn off the heat. Serve hot with rice, roti, or naan.
