Matar Paneer

Matar Paneer is a comforting North Indian classic that brings together tender paneer and sweet green peas in a gently spiced tomato-based sauce. With Spice Symphony’s All-Purpose Base Sauce and Garam Masala, this version keeps preparation simple while delivering warm, balanced flavor.

Ingredients

  • ⅔ cup (150 g) Spice Symphony All-Purpose Base Sauce
  • 150 ml water
  • 200 g paneer, cubed
  • 2 tbsp butter or oil
  • 1 cup (200 g) green peas
  • Salt, to taste
  • ¼–½ tsp Spice Symphony Garam Masala
  • Fresh cilantro, for garnish

Method

  1. Prepare the sauce: Mix the base sauce and water well. Set aside.
  2. Pan-fry the paneer: Heat butter or oil in a pan over medium heat. Add paneer cubes and fry gently for 2–3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until lightly golden. (Use caution — paneer may splatter.)
  3. Add the peas: Add green peas to the pan and cook for 1–2 minutes, stirring gently.
  4. Simmer the curry: Pour in the prepared sauce mixture and add salt to taste. Cover and cook for 3–4 minutes until heated through.
  5. Finish the dish: Add Garam Masala, stir once, and turn off the heat.
  6. Garnish and serve: Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot with rice, roti, or naan.
